Tom Haley, ’73 began his sport’s writing career as a student member of the Castleton State College newspaper, The Spartan.  After serving as a high school social studies teacher and athletic director at Fall Mountain Regional H.S. in Langdon, NH, Tom was employed as a sports editor at the Eagle Times in Claremont, NH.  His sports writing career took off as he began his tenure at the Rutland Herald.  Tom has received several awards including the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association’s “Vermont Sports Writer of the Year” six times.  He was inducted into the Vermont Podiatric Sports Hall of Fame for sports writing and reporting.  He is currently the Vice President of the Vermont Sportswriters Association.  Tom’s passion and dedication to sports writing, especially in the promotion of women’s athletics, has provided area wide exposure for Castleton’s athletes throughout the years.
