Michael Wilhelm, ’89, was a superb two-sport athlete lettering in soccer and baseball for four years. As a soccer goalkeeper, he is among the leaders in the Castleton record books with 8 shutouts in his senior season and allowing only 1.11 goals per game. In addition to his success on the soccer field, Michael was a fierce competitor on the baseball diamond. He finished off his college baseball career batting .297 with 18 career home runs, which currently places him first in Castleton history. He also helped Spartan baseball teams capture four consecutive Mayflower Conference titles as a pitcher. During Michael’s junior and senior seasons, he was chosen for the All-Mayflower Conference Team. As a senior, Michael was the recipient of the Castleton State College Coaches’ Award for his outstanding ability and leadership in both sports.
