Aric Thorne-Thomsen '94 helped put Castleton tennis on the regional and national stage in the early 1990's. A four-year Captain of the Spartans, Thorne-Thomsen also earned team Most Valuable Player awards in each of his four seasons. He was a three-time District Singles Champion and earned four-straight All-District honors. Thorne-Thomsen burst onto the scene in 1992, winning the Mayflower Conference Singles Title and becoming the first Castleton player to qualify for the NAIA National Tournament since 1978. The following season, Thorne- Thomsen led the Spartans to their first-ever Mayflower Conference Team Title, and an appearance in the national tournament. His career culminated with yet another conference singles title and trip to the national tournament, as well as earning NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete honors for the third-straight season. Thorne-Thomsen spent two years after graduation working as a tennis pro, before attending the University of Montana where he earned a master's degree in physical therapy. He has worked as a physical therapist since 1999 and now he and his wife Ragna own a physical therapy business in Missoula, Montana. They and their children Lars and Liv are involved in tennis as well as many other outdoor activities.
