A native of Chester, Vermont, Mathew Parker was a four-year contributor for the Castleton men’s basketball program from 1992 through 1996. He graduated as the men’s basketball program’s fifth-leading scorer all-time, and ranks ninth all-time in Castleton history at his time of induction. A lethal long-range shooter, Parker graduated with the second-most made three-pointers in program history and the second-best three-point percentage; both marks still rank among the program’s top-five all-time at the time of induction. He was twice named to the Mayflower Conference’s All-Conference Team, and helped Castleton earn a share of the regular-season title during the 1995-96 season with a 12-2 record in league play. He had a breakout season as a sophomore, leading the team with 16.2 points per game while shooting .444 from behind the arc. He followed that up with a solid junior year, scoring 13.8 points per game before finishing his career with 16.7 points per game as a senior. During his final year in the Spartan uniform, Parker netted double-digit point totals in 25 of his 28 games. Following his time at Castleton, Parker taught history and coached high school basketball. His South Beloit team ended a 31-year regional championship drought and posted three consecutive 20-win seasons during his time at the helm. He was named the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2009 for his team’s outstanding performance, and was inducted into the South Beloit High School Hall of Fame in 2019 for his success as the school’s head coach. Parker is currently the Director of Athletics, Activities and Program Development for the Rockford Public School District in Illinois. He resides in Rockford, Ill., with his wife, Jessica, and their two children.
