Puleo made an immediate impact on the Castleton baseball program as a freshman from Utica, N.Y., in 2004, batting .349 with 10 doubles, three home runs, and 28 runs batted in to earn North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year honors. After batting above .300 during his sophomore season, Puleo once again was one of the Spartans' top hitters in 2006, hitting .345 with 50 hits, including nine doubles and four home runs, plus he scored 31 runs and drove in 39 runs. He received team MVP and Second Team All-NAC recognition after the 2006 season. In 2007, he once again was named the team MVP and earned First Team All-NAC and All-NEIBA honors after batting .400, leading the Spartans with 16 doubles, four home runs, and 38 runs batted in. He drew 20 walks while striking out only 14 times. He helped Castleton to its then-highest win total in program history with a 26-12 (.684) mark in 2007. He received his bachelor's degree in physical education and sports administration.
