Robert “Squeak” Gregory ’69 was a quick, tireless athlete who challenged and outplayed bigger men. His leadership, as well as his soccer and lacrosse skills, were so respected that he returned to Castleton as assistant coach in both sports. Later, as head lacrosse coach, his teams were the best Castleton has produced with a 24-20 record for four years and a 1973 appearance in the ECAC New England tournament. He was also instrumental in the beginnings of athletic training at the college. In 12 years of coaching boys’ soccer at Fair Haven Union High School, his teams appeared in the state championships six times and won three straight titles. His varsity Fair Haven softball teams have won three league titles.
