John Mayotte ’65 has spent the better part of the last five decades as a baseball coach, including over 30 years molding college baseball players into future professionals. Following his graduation from Castleton with a degree in social science, Mayotte spent ten years as the head coach of Coxsackie-Athens High School posting an impressive 135-27 overall record while capturing six consecutive sectional titles before moving on to the collegiate ranks. From 1978-1990 he led Eckerd College to new heights, securing the national no. 1 ranking multiple times while posting a 473-205 record. He was twice named the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year and reached the NCAA Regionals six times. He had 15 players drafted professionally during his tenure and in 2013 was inducted into the Eckerd Athletics Hall of Fame. Mayotte then moved on to Troy University, where he won 386 games over 12 years and had 10 players drafted. At Troy he led his teams to four conference titles, earning conference Coach of the Year honors four times and in 1993 piloted the Trojans to a third place finish at the NCAA College World Series. Mayotte also spent five years coaching the Chatham Athletics of the Cape Cod Baseball League, coaching future MLB stars like Albert Belle and Jeff Bagwell and numerous other professionals while securing manager of the year honors in 1985. Mayotte most recently coached the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the New York Collegiate Baseball League from 2004-2013. He coached over 60 MLB draft picks with the Golden Eagles and in 2012 was inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame.
