Jim Ewald was one of the greatest all-around athletes to attendCastleton. As a soccer goalie, he was All-New England in 1974,All-State in 1975, All-NAIA District 5 in 1975, and All-NESCAC in1974 and 1975. In 1974, he was credited with 198 saves, then aCastleton record. He had a career batting average of .347 and inthe 1976 NAIA district baseball championship was 7-for-14 in thedoubleheader championship. Many have called him the greatestdefensive centerfielder in Castleton baseball history. During the1974-75 basketball season, Jim set records for assists in a game(14) and for a season (105) in leading the Spartans to a first everpost-season tournament appearance.
