Dan Holden ’96 earned a solid reputation as one of the all-around best athletes on the Castleton men’s soccer team. During an outstanding four-year career, Holden scored 22 goals and dished out 21 assists from his midfield position. As a freshman, he led the team with seven assists, following it up with a sophomore campaign that earned him all-conference and all-district honors as a defender. During his final two seasons, Holden’s all-around game flourished as he earned team's most valuable player honors both years. As a senior, Holden led the team to 14 wins (a program best at the time) and a Mayflower Conference Championship. During that final season, he scored a career-best 10 goals and was named to the all-conference and all-region teams. In addition, he earned a spot in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League All-Star Game and earned Most Valuable Player honors. Holden’s accomplishments gained national exposure, earning him Second Team All-American honors and recognition as an All-America Scholar Athlete. Upon graduation, Holden played in the A-League for a season with the Worcester Wildfire and Cape Cod Crusaders. He is an active player in the Shoreline Adult Soccer League A division, a top league in Connecticut. Holden also runs a charitable soccer tournament each May to benefit The O’Brien Children Education Fund and the Jennifer Ketter Memorial Scholarship.
