Jim Thieser, coach and faculty member since 1972, has had an enormous impact on student-athletes on the playing field, in the classroom, and in their personal lives. Men’s soccer coach for 17 seasons, he compiled an overall record of 138-120-31. During this time, the Spartans appeared in 15 post-season tournaments and nine of his soccer players were honored by being named to various NAIA All-American teams. He coached baseball for 18 seasons – the most years of any Castleton coach in any sport – compiling a record of 204-202, three District 5 titles, and nine Mayflower Conference titles. He has been named to the Hall of Fame of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the NAIA’s highest honor.
