Angela LeBlanc '79 was known throughout the Castleton community for her natural athletic ability, leadership qualities, and sense of humor. As a high school student, she was recognized by SportsIllustrated as an outstanding athlete, and her talents continued to shine as a Spartan. As a member of the 1976 Hall of Fame inducted field hockey team, Angela was an all-tournament selection in the New England College field hockey tournament and was selected to participate in the Northeast Sectionals Field Hockey Tournament. In her sophomore season at Castleton she scored an incredible 21 goals. Her love of sports and the outdoors was evident throughout her life; in 1978, she and a friend became the first women to ever kayak the Noatak River in Alaska. Angela passed away peacefully in 2003 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.
