John Barth ’63 was called, “The greatest natural athlete I ever coached” by long-time Athletic Director and Hall of Famer T.R. Terry. Barth was the first winner of the Coaches’ Trophy (1961-62), honoring excellence in more than one sport. He led the soccer team in scoring in the 1961 undefeated season and was named team MVP. He had a 4-1 pitching record for the NESCAC Conference championship team of 1962, was an outstanding basketball player, and competed in track. He coached the Windsor High School men’s varsity basketball team for 19 years. In 1978, that team – from the smallest Division school in Vermont – won the state championship and beat Nashua High School, nearly ten times its size, in the New England championships. Now a science teacher, Barth continues to coach young men and women.
