Robert Van Valkenburgh, ’83, was an integral member of Castleton’s successful baseball teams. He was a standout third baseman and a left-handed power hitter. Bob earned Team MVP Honors, NAIA District V Honors and was team captain in his junior and senior seasons. He was a team leader by being a quiet example of hard work, positive attitude and success while having fun. Since graduating, Bob has become a highly respected and successful physical education teacher, athletic administrator and coach at the South Kortright Central School. He has coached varsity soccer, basketball and baseball for the past 16 years. His teams have won numerous league and sectional championships. Bob has also been instrumental in starting a youth soccer program, an elementary basketball program, and a summer Little League in his community. In 2001, Bob was inducted into the New York State, Section IV Hall of Fame for his accomplishments during his high school playing days and his success as an educator and coach.
