One of the last instructor/coaches, Dr. Steveda “Stevie” Chepko was a persistent spokeswoman and advocate for quality programs for female athletes. She initated the refinement and further implementation of Title IX requirements at Castleton State College. Her highly successful teams were predicated on the basic skill technique, teamwork, honesty and fairness that reflected her energetic devotion to women sports. Dr. Chepko’s expertise in physical education was legendary; she was a dedicated instructor who tirelessly provided endless opportunities for student growth and development. Her expectations of colleagues and students alike prompted them to achieve many great accomplishments. She made those around her better than they thought they could be.
