In the fall of his senior year, he was second in the New England small college championships. The next spring, he finished second in both the NESCAC mile and two-mile on the same day, against different winners. After graduation, Mike returned to coach cross country for four seasons. In 1975, his team was the first to qualify for the NAIA championship in Kenosha, Wisconsin, by finishing second in District 5. He was instrumental in founding the Ridge Runners, a grassroots club that increased interest in running in Rutland County. In his 19th year as a science teacher, Mike continues racing as a master who is a threat to much younger runners.
