Matthew Dempsey, ’84, was a prolific offensive weapon on two of the most successful athletic programs Castleton State College has ever seen. A four-year player, Matt was a member of the 1982 soccer team that tied a school record with 14 wins. Matt tallied 14 assists that season, setting a school record that stands to this day. Also a four-year member of the basketball team, Matt was an integral component of the 1982-83 basketball team which set a school record by winning 30 games. Matt became a fixture on the Castleton State basketball record books, where he continues to be ranked in the top ten in five statistical categories. Today, Mattis is a successful collegiate men’s basketball head coach, most recently guiding his team to two straight Mayflower Conference titles and consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.
