Dr. Don Orvis ’62 was a four-year letter-winner in soccer, basketball and baseball at Castleton. Orvis was a goalkeeper on the soccer field; a prolific scorer for the basketball team, and part of a hall-of-fame battery, with catcher and brother Leon Orvis, as a pitcher on the baseball team. After receiving his degree from Castleton, Orvis taught math for four years and earned his Master of Arts degree from Arizona State and his Master of Religious Education degree from the Denver Seminary in 1968. Orvis ministered to college students at the University of Colorado and Denver University for five years during the turbulent late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1973, he completed his Doctor of Education degree at Arizona State and began an 18-year service to the Denver Seminary, spending eight years as the Dean of Students and 10 as the Vice President for Development. During his time in Colorado, Orvis was aregular chapel speaker for the Denver Broncos, Denver Zephyrs(minor league baseball) and Aurora Police Department. Orvis was also a highly respected baseball and basketball official, working in both the high school and collegiate ranks, and having the pleasure to work Major League Spring Training when the umpires were on strike. In 1996, Orvis founded Face to Face International, an interdenominational, evangelical mission which specializes in building world mission commitment by recruiting, preparing and leading short-term ministry teams throughout the world. He currently serves as President and CEO of the Scottsdale, Arizona-based company.
