Sheldon Cosby ’89 was one of the best all-around talents to wear the green and white of Castleton basketball. Cosby’s teams went 83-31 and won a pair of Mayflower Conference titles. He was a two-time All-Conference honoree, and earned two NAIA District V All-Star awards. Cosby set Castleton records in games played(110) and assists (471) while ranking fourth in scoring with 1,227 points. More than two decades later, he still ranks first, second, and ninth in the three categories, respectively. While thrilling to watch on the hardwood, Cosby was equally impressive off the court, holding the office of Student Senator as a junior and Vice President of Academic Affairs his senior year. He graduated with a 3.2 overall GPA and was awarded the Abel E. Leavenworth Leadership Award, one of Castleton’s most prestigious awards. Since leaving Castleton, Cosby has worked for the Connecticut Department of Labor, earning several promotions and currently working as an adjudications specialist. Always one to give back, Cosby is a volunteer for VIBE, a program designed to help disadvantaged children. He has also spent time as a high school basketball official, earning the 2006 McDonnell Scholarship from the IAABO to pursue officiating at a higher level.
