Mark Garrow ’81 is an award-winning motorsports broadcaster and has pioneered many facets of the auto racing communications industry via radio, public relations, and the internet. Garrow has created nationally syndicated radio shows, co-anchored some of the most exciting NASCAR race broadcasts, and negotiated one of the biggest business deals ever for a NASCAR news website. A five-time Vermont Golden Glove and two-time New England boxing champion, Garrow got his start in radio after being interviewed following one of his matches. His passion for auto racing was cultivated by entertaining fans with his announcing at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in nearby West Haven, Vermont, Claremont Speedway in Claremont, New Hampshire, and Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Garrow spent time as the Public Relations Director at Dover Downs Speedway and with MRN Radio in Daytona Beach, Florida, before joining the Capitol Sports Network, where he helped build the nationally syndicated radio show “Winston Cup Today” which was heard on more than 400 stations from 1986 to 2000. In 2001, Garrow successfully created “Garage Pass” with the Performance Racing Network, which is currently aired on more than 440 radio stations. Garrow’s latest venture, the NASCAR news website Jayski.com, was purchased by ESPN in 2007, where Garrow continues to direct its business affairs, produce a podcast for ESPN.com and handle fantasy racing chat sessions. During his career, Garrow has won nearly 40 radio broadcasting awards, the most ever by a National Motorsports Press Association member, including the prestigious Barney Hall Broadcaster of the Year in 2002 and 2010. He also has appeared on TNN, SPEED, NBC, FOX and ESPN. Outside of motorsports, Garrow is the president of the Union Grove Christian School Booster Club and “commissioner” of the school’s intramural soccer program, which involves more than 100 children, grades first through sixth. Garrow resides in Midway, N.C., with his wife, Lynne, and their two children, Breanna and Marissa.
