One of the most respected and accomplished high school basketball coaches in Vermont history, Bob Prenevost ‘69 built a legacy of excellence and longevity over more than four decades on the sidelines. With 537 career wins—380 of them at Fair Haven Union High School—Prenevost guided the Slaters to three Division II state championships (1997, 2018, 2020), six state finals appearances, and 14 trips to the historic Barre Auditorium. Known for his ability to motivate and maximize the potential of his players, Prenevost led Fair Haven through five state final appearances in a seven-year span. His leadership earned him multiple Coach of the Year honors, six from the Southern Vermont League/Mountain Valley League and five from the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association. In 2023, he was honored as the Vermont Wooden Legacy Coach of the Year. Prenevost was inducted into the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011 and reached his 500th career victory with Fair Haven in December 2021. He also served as an assistant coach at Castleton State College from 1998 to 2000. After a brief retirement, he returned to the Fair Haven bench, driven by his love of the game and his commitment to his players. In total, Prenevost dedicated 41 years to teaching and coaching, leaving an undeniable mark on Vermont basketball through his unwavering dedication to the sport.Â
