Albert “A.J.” Marro ’71 has been a fixture in the Rutland community for over four decades, creating memories for thousands with his camera. Marro grew up in Rutland, attending Mount St. Joseph, before moving on to Castleton, where he was involved with the Community Forum and member of the Student Senate. Marro graduated in 1971 after studying history and English, and moved on to the Rutland Herald full time, where he had previously delivered newspapers on his bicycle as a teenager. During his illustrious career with the Herald, Marro covered governors, mayors, accidents, fires, community theatre as well as some of the most iconic sports moments in the Rutland region. He has received numerous awards for his photography over the years and was fittingly voted into the Vermont Principals’ Association Hall of Fame as a media member in 2007. Marro retired from the paper in 2015 but still finds time to help out the Herald on occasion, immortalizing memories for another generation. He currently resides Rutland.
