Bonnie Van Lunen ’90 is an associate professor at Old Dominion University and is currently the director for Old Dominion’s athletic training M.S Ed. program. Van Lunen began her educational journey at Castleton, earning her bachelor of science in physical education in 1990. From there she moved on to the University of Virginia, where she received a master’s degree in athletic training in 1991 and then earned her Ph.D. in physical education in 1998. Since 2003 she has co-authored nearly 50 articles published in numerous publications, including the Journal of Athletic Training, Journal of Sports Rehabilitation, and Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Her expertise lies in the realm of athletic-related injuries and sports medicine. In 2005 she was honored with the Darden College of Education’s Tonelson Award at Old Dominion for Outstanding Teaching, Scholarship and Service. Van Lunen was selected as a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Service Award Nominee in 2007 and in 2011 honored with the Outstanding Research Manuscript in Athletic Training Education Journal. Just two years ago in 2012 she was named an Athletic Training Fellow from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association as well as the DCOE Publications Award from the Darden College of Education for co-authoring 14 publications during the academic year and posting ten online educational modules for athletic trainers with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
