Gerald Burns, ’86, arguably the best point guard to ever play at Castleton State College, played four years of basketball on powerhouse teams that ranked Castleton among the best small colleges in the country. He was an integral component of the1983-1984 team, which set a school record by winning 26 games. He was also the “floor general” for the 1984-1985 team that won the District 5 Championship and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament. Gerald became a fixture in the Castleton State College record books, where he continues to be ranked in the top 10in five statistical categories. Currently, he is ranked fourth in career points with 1,140 and second in career assists with 465. He was twice selected All-Mayflower Conference and three times to the All-State Team. Since graduation from Castleton, Gerald has become a successful men’s basketball coach at Monroe Community College, averaging over 20 wins a season.
