CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's soccer team shut out Paul Smith's College Monday night, with a 6-0 win.
CJ Wallingford and
Josh Catanzarita scored their first goals as Spartans.

How it Happened:
- Matt Spiller notched his first goal of the season in the fifth minute to put the Spartans on the board first, making a move around his defender to sneak the ball in past the keeper.
- The Spartans wasted no time, with Tanner Curtis taking on two defenders and tucking the ball into the top right corner, giving Castleton a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute.
- Curtis found Spiller from the corner, sending in a beautiful ball straight to the foot of Spiller, for Spiller's second goal of the night, and the Spartans' third of the game in the 21st minute.
- In the 29th minute, Jacques Alfani sent a ball in to Michael O'Connor, who waited out his defender before sending the ball past the keeper to extend the lead to four.
- Wallingford made his presence known on the field in the 40th minute, sending in a long ball from five yards beyond the box, marking his first points in a Castleton uniform as the first half came to a close.
- Catanzarita waited for his turn, taking a kick off a deflection from a Bobcats defender for his first goal in green and white for the final goal of the game in the 62nd minute, soldifying the Castleton victory.
By the Numbers:
- Alex Roy made his Spartan debut in net, posting 63 minutes, with Ahmad Abdilah relieving him for the remainder of the game.
- Spiller led the way with two goals and three shots on goal.
