CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's soccer team hosted its 13th annual Grassroot Soccer game Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Little East conference member Plymouth State.

How it Happened:
- The Spartan offense went to work in the first off as Sean Butler, Liam Cramer, and Matt Spiller fired shots off at Plymouth's goalie, but struggled to break through.
- Both teams played evenly through the first 45 minutes, with Castleton outshooting Plymouth 6-5 as Xander Berthiaume made two saves.
- As the second half began, Spiller tested Kole Matta yet again, but was unable to get past the keeper in the 62nd minute.
- Josh Catanzarita notched a header just wide of the net in the 77th minute as the Spartans continued to look for a goal.
- As the clock wound down, the Panthers found themselves with a header in the 87th minute, sneaking it past Berthiaume for a 1-0 lead.
- Castleton continued to fight, with two corner kick opportunities in the final two minutes, barely missing two shots as time expired, leaving the Panthers with a 1-0 win.
By the Numbers:
- Spiller led the charge with two shots on goal, with Will Ambruso, Tanner Curtis, Butler, and Cramer adding one each.
- Berthiaume finished the day with five saves through 90 minutes.
