Men's Soccer Topped by Thoroughbreds

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's soccer team dropped a midweek non-conference match Tuesday night at Skidmore, falling 3-0.

The Basics:

How it Happened:
  • The Thoroughbreds struck in the 13th minute after four shots and a corner kick, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • Jacob Eiseman had the Spartans' lone shot on goal in the first half, but was unable to push it past David Zampese in the net for Skidmore.
  • Xander Berthiaume made four saves despite Skidmore's pressure, but the Thoroughbreds scored again in the 29th minute to extend their lead.
  • Skidmore quickly made a move on the offensive end as the second half began, firing off two shots before the third found its way to the back of the net in the 51st minute for the final goal of the night.
  • Six minutes later, Nate Lurie registered a shot before Castleton was awarded their first corner kick of the night, but they were unable to convert.
  • Berthiaume made two more saves before giving way to Alex Roy in the 68th minute, while Jacques Alfani shot the final shot of the night in the 87th minute that was off the mark, leaving Skidmore with a 3-0 win.
