RUTLAND, Vt. – Continually battling, but ultimately falling, the Castleton University women's tennis team wrapped up its season with a 9-0 loss to the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs on Saturday afternoon at Grand Slam Tennis.

Castleton completes its season at 3-10 overall and 0-9 in Little East Conference action, while UMass-Dartmouth improves to 10-4 and 6-3. The Corsairs currently sit fourth in the conference standings awaiting a potential playoff berth in the six-team single-elimination tournament.

Falling behind early in doubles play, Castleton looked poised to tie it up and take the lead with strong performances in first – Megan Nadler and Kirsten Kruk – and third doubles – Alexis Curley and Grace Sharkey. Yet, the Corsairs held off the surging Spartans to claim 8-5 and 8-6 decisions at the first and third flights, respectively.

In singles play, Kruk was in a back-and-forth battle all throughout her match. The senior eventually fell by 7-5 and 6-4 set scores, despite hanging tough throughout.

Women's tennis will return six of its seven players in 2018 when it enters its second season of competition in the Little East.
