CASTLETON, Vt. -- The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision Saturday afternoon in its conference opener.
The Spartans fell in all three doubles matches to begin the match.
Grace Pluff and
Andrea Rodriguez were first to finish, falling to Elly Mitchell and Samantha Betterncourt, 6-1.
Halle Hipple and
Maggie McKearin followed with a 6-1 loss to Ana Eccles and Maeve Snyder.
Brooke Hecker and
Olivia Rutkowski closed out doubles play with a 6-2 loss to Morgan Smith and Aislyn Kelliher.
In singles play, McKearin earned Castleton's lone point at the fifth spot, defeating Snyder 6-4, 7-6. Rutkowski fell to Kelliher, 6-1, 6-1, while Rodriguez dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Ava Alves. Pluff fell to Eccles, 6-0, 6-0, and Hipple fell to Bettencourt, 6-0, 6-0. Hecker closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Smith.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, September 16, against VTSU Johnson at 4 p.m.
