LYNDONVILLE, Vt. -- The Vermont State University Castleton women's tennis team swept VTSU Lyndon 7-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Spartans secured the doubles point with wins at all three spots. At the No. 1 spot,
Brooke Hecker and
Olivia Rutkowski defeated Megan Richardson and Olivia Cordova, 6-1, while
Andrea Rodriguez and
Grace Pluff blanked Alyssa Gerrish and Kaylee Moore, 6-0 at No. 2.
Maggie McKearin and
Halle Hipple earned a win by forfeit at No. 3.
In singles play, Castleton continued its dominant performance, winning all six matches. Hipple was the first Spartan to finish with a win by forfeit at No. 5 followed by
Emma Johnson, who also earned a win by forfeit at No, 6. Hecker took down Richardson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, while McKearin blanked Gerrish 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Pluff earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Moore at No. 4, and Rutkowski capped the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Cordova at No. 2.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow, Sept 12 at home vs Bridgewater State at 1 p.m. for their first conference matchup of the season.
