NEW LONDON, N.H. – Playing through foggy conditions, Castleton University controlled the action from the start as the Spartans extended their winning streak to six games with a 19-4 victory over Colby-Sawyer College Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse game at Veitch Turf Field.

Castleton jumped on the board just 54 seconds into the contest as Tiffany Danyow scored, and then the Spartan defense held Colby-Sawyer off the scoreboard despite the Chargers keeping possession for several minutes. The Spartans extended their lead with four goals in the span of two-and-a-half minutes, led by Grace Johnson with two goals and Emily Cross with one goal as well as an assist.

Cross assisted on a goal by Nadine Downing before Nicole Lavigne broke through for the Chargers halfway through the first half. Danyow picked up her second goal of the game, and then she assisted on Johnson's third goal of the match 20 seconds later. The Spartans would score four more times in the first half before Carli Chiodo notched Colby-Sawyer's second goal of the game, making the score 12-2 in Castleton's favor at halftime.

Castleton scored seven goals in the second half, the first two by Johnson as she finished with a career-high six goals, plus she assisted on Downing's third goal of the game to notch another career high with seven points. Downing earned her first career hat trick to go along with four ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers.

Danyow also finished with a hat trick, plus she collected four assists for seven total points, the fourth time this season she has reached that point total. Samantha Hebb played 54 minutes in net and finished with four saves, with Johnson and Danyow helping her defensively by causing three turnovers each.

Colby-Sawyer (9-5, 6-2 NAC) was led by Lavigne with two goals and five draw controls, while Sierra Schuster scored on a free position shot late in the second half to go along with two ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Meghan Castellano started in net for the Chargers and made three saves, but Kailyn Lapham took over 17 minutes into the game and earned five saves.

Castleton (8-6, 8-0 NAC) closes the regular season with two home games at Spartan Stadium, welcoming Green Mountain Monday, April 24, at 4 p.m. and Worcester State Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. in a contest rescheduled from March 16.
