CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton women's lacrosse team defeated UMaine-Farmington, 15-13, in non-conference action at Dave Wolk Stadium.

How it Happened
Despite
Halle Christian winning the opening draw, UMaine-Farmington struck first at 13:22. The visitors added another goal at 8:12 to take an early 2-0 lead.
UMF held the advantage throughout the first quarter until
Phoebe Loomis put Castleton on the board with a free-position goal at 4:21, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Christian scored 57 seconds into the second stanza to even the score at 2-2.
The Spartans took control at 11:36 when
Renny Cota netted her first goal of the day off an assist from
Courtney Magee. Cota struck again just 38 seconds later to extend the lead to 4-2.
UMaine-Farmington scored twice before halftime, but Castleton answered with three goals of its own—courtesy of Loomis,
Lanza Bellomo, and
Megan Culp—to carry a 7-4 lead into the break.
Cota opened the second half with another goal to push the lead to 8-4. UMF responded quickly with a pair of goals within a minute to stay within striking distance.
After trading goals, the Spartans went on a decisive four-goal run, with two from
Bella Gale and one each from Loomis and Christian, to take a 13-7 advantage. The Beavers closed the third quarter with two goals to make it 13-9.
The fourth quarter featured five total goals—three by UMaine-Farmington and two by Castleton—as the Spartans held on for a 15-12 victory. Loomis accounted for both Castleton goals in the final frame.
