Box Score HOLDERNESS, N.H. – Castleton University could not maintain its momentum from Wednesday's victory, as Plymouth State defeated the Spartans, 17-3, Friday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate women's lacrosse match held at the Holderness School.
Plymouth State (1-2) scored the first four goals of the game, led by Sam Sullivan with two goals and Megan Tingley with a goal and an assist. Grace Johnson put Castleton on the board with 20:26 remaining in the first half, but then the Panthers took control, scoring seven unanswered goals, two of them by Kaitlyn Wilder along with Tingley earning one goal and two assists during that stretch.
After Sullivan scored 38 seconds into the second half, Ashley Pelkey and Tiffany Danyow picked up consecutive goals for Castleton. Plymouth State would close out the game with five unanswered goals by five different players, as Sullivan earned her fourth goal of the day and Tingley completed her hat trick.
Erin McKenna and Sabrina Hosner led Castleton with three ground balls apiece. Samantha Hebb once again played the entire match in net for the Spartans, making 10 saves during the afternoon.
Besides her four goals, Sullivan led the Panthers with five ground balls, while Tingley finished with three goals and three assists for six total points. Meg Brault started the match in net for Plymouth State and made five saves, while Emilee Wargo came into the game with 11:30 remaining and earned three saves without allowing a goal.
Castleton (2-5) begins a stretch of four games in five days with a non-conference home game against Keene State Wednesday, April 5, at 4 p.m. at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans will then play seven conference games in a row, starting with a road tilt at Thomas College Thursday, April 6, at 4 p.m.
