Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – Colby-Sawyer punched its ticket to a sixth consecutive North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division Championship after defeating Castleton in the semifinal match on Saturday morning, 9-0.
The Chargers were quick out of the gates as NEAC East Player of the Year Ashley Woodside alongside Maddy Gemerek took the opening doubles match, defeating their counterparts and a pair of Second-Team All Conference members in Ciara Bannister and Kirsten Kruk, 8-0.
In second flight doubles, Megan Nadler and Kayla Zsido of Castleton nabbed a point over Evelyn Miller and Aislinn O'Connor, but that was all the Spartans would get as Colby-Sawyer went on for the 8-1 victory.
Michelle Lopes and Hillary Boucher also swept Castleton's Emily Miller and Alexis Curley to move Colby-Sawyer out front 3-0 heading into singles.
Woodside continued her strong showing with a straight-set sweep over Ciara Bannister in No. 1 singles, while Lauren Blanchard and Christine Hill also earned points for Colby-Sawyer with wins by the same score.
Kruk grabbed one set in both matches of No. 3 singles, while Nadler and Zsido each won a set in second and fourth singles, respectively, but the Chargers prevailed to earn the 9-0 sweep and an appearance in the Championship game.
Colby-Sawyer will now wait for the results of the other semifinal match between No. 2 Husson and No. 3 Johnson State to determine their opponent in the NEAC East Championship. The finals will begin tentatively one hour after the finish of the semifinal match.
