Box Score BANGOR, Maine – The Castleton men's soccer team got out to an early lead and never looked back, picking up a 2-0 win on the road at Husson on Saturday in a North Atlantic Conference contest at Boucher Field.
Castleton improves to 6-2 in NAC action and 6-8-2 overall, while Husson falls to 5-2-1 n the NAC and 7-6-2 overall.
Derek Blouin and Jack Kingdon each tallied a goal in the victory, and Aaron Parker made three saves to collect his first shutout of the season.
Blouin got the scoring started early, tallying a goal in the 20th minute to make it 1-0 in favor of Castleton. The Spartans continued to apply pressure following the goal, taking eight shots in the first half, six of which were on target.
In the second half, Kingdon continued his stellar rookie season, scoring his eighth goal of the season to reach 20 total points in 2016 and give his squad the 2-0 advantage. With the score, Kingdon became the first Castleton freshman to reach the 20-point mark since the 2011 season.
Parker made two of his three saves following the Kingdon goal to help preserve not only the two-goal lead, but also the shutout.
Castleton held a 15-9 edge in shots, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Spartans received eight corner kicks while Husson received seven, and the Eagles had six fouls to Castleton's five.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow when they face Maine Maritime in a 2:30 contest for their final NAC battle of the season.
