Men's Soccer Shuts Out Beavers on Senior Day

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Vermont State University Castleton men's soccer team took home a 4-0 shutout on senior day against the Beavers of Maine-Farmington, Sunday afternoon.

The Basics:

How it Happened:
  • Castleton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute as Sean Butler found the head of Liam Cramer on a corner kick insert.
  • Both teams held down on the defensive end through the end of the first half as Castleton fired off 10 shots to the Beavers' three.
  • In the 55th minute, Michael O'Connor took a shot off the crossbar that Jacques Alfani was able to bury, extending the Spartan lead to two.
  • Cramer and Butler's connection continued in the 81st minute, as Butler found Cramer's head for the second time, giving Castleton a 3-0 lead.
  • Senior Tanner Curtis put the cap on a senior day victory in the 84th minute, as Alfani snuck the ball to Curtis, who was able to sneak it past the goalie, solidifying the 4-0 win.
By the Numbers:
  • Alex Roy finished the day with three saves through 90 minutes.
  • Cramer led the team with three shots on goal, while five different Spartans put up one each.

The team concludes its season on Wednesday, October 29, as they travel to Keene State for the final Little East Conference game of the season, with kick off set for 6 p.m.
