LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Castleton's men's soccer team opened North Atlantic Conference play this afternoon with a hard-fought, 1-0 victory in overtime at Lyndon St.

With the victory, the Spartans improve to 5-2 overall (1-0 NAC), while the Hornets remain winless on the season after dropping their fifth straight contest.

After more than 90 minutes of scoreless play, Derek Blouin netted the game-winner with less than one minute remaining in overtime. Thomas Kirk took a free kick outside the 18-yard box that was deflected in front of the net. With a scrum ensuing, Blouin was able to gather the ball and fire a strike past the keeper to secure the 1-0 victory.

In goal, Amir Pasic now stands at 5-2 on the season after recording his fourth straight shutout. The senior shot-stopper hasn't allowed a goal in net since Castleton's 2-1 loss vs. Plattsburgh St. on September 9.

The Spartans return to the pitch this Tuesday when they travel to Northfield, Vt. to faceoff with in-state foes Norwich (4-3) at 7:00 pm.
