Castleton Takes Down Bard 13-8

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Spartans took an early lead and didn't look back as they won their fifth straight contest, beating Bard 13-8 on a rainy Wednesday evening.

A lightening strike with 4:28 left in the first quarter delayed the game for just over 30 minutes, but the Spartans didn't lose momentum as they didn't trail and won 14 of 25 faceoffs while outshooting the Raptors 45-36 to improve to 11-5 overall. Bard committed 24 turnovers as it dropped to 3-10 on the year. 

Senior Zach Davidson led the attack with three goals and two assists while freshman Sam Frackleton added two goals and two ground balls while classmate Sam Siegel added a pair of scores. Dillon Robinson anchored the defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Isaac Devoid won 12 of 21 faceoffs and picked up a team-high nine ground balls. 

Henry Blosfelds led the Raptors with four goals while Blake Burnley added three goals and two goals in defeat. Harrison Mauldin added nine ground balls. 

The Spartans opened the scoring with 4:28 left in the first quarter on Davidson's 38th goal of the year. Bard evened it up at 1-1 just under two minutes later, but Frackleton netted a goal with just 32 seconds left in the first for the 2-1 advantage. 

Micky Prozinski scored off a feed from Nikolas Rancourt at 11:09 for a 3-1 lead but the Raptors cut the deficit to 3-2 two minutes later. Siegel gave Castleton a 4-2 lead with 6:22 left and Davidson provided a goal at 4:02 before Siegel ended the run by scoring with just 33 seconds remaining in the period for the 6-2 lead. 

Bard opened the scoring with 12:29 left in the third, but Alex Denny countered at 10:42 and Rancourt scored with 3:54 left for the 8-3 lead. The Raptors' Henry Blosfelds came back with consecutive goals in the last 2:30 of the third to trim the Castleton lead to 8-5. 

Frackleton and Taylor Swarter led off the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals in 1:09 to push the Spartan advantage to 10-5. Blosfelds cut the deficit to four with 12:43 left and a Bard goal with 11:20 left to make it 10-7. However, Davidson ended the run with 10:16 remaining and Zach Devoid extended the lead to 12-7 before the team's split goals in the last 90 seconds for the final five-goal margin. 

Junior Peter Latulippe earned the win in net, playing the first half and allowing three goals while making six saves. John Henry Glascock took the loss, despite making 17 saves for Bard. 

The Spartans return to action on April 28 when they host the NAC Semifinals at a time to be determined.
