Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Castleton's men's lacrosse team scored ten straight goals to start the game before pulling away with nine scores in the second half en route to a 19-1 victory over the Thomas (Me.) Terriers on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Spartans turned in an outstanding performance, as they outshot the opposition 80-15 and successfully completed 20 of the team's 21 clearance attempts. With the win, Castleton climbs back to .500 at 4-4 overall while also remaining perfect in the North Atlantic Conference with a 3-0 record. The Terriers, meanwhile, fall to 0-6 (0-3 NAC) on the season in the losing effort.
Zach Davidson paced the Castleton attack with a team-leading six points from three goals and three assists to go along with three groundballs and two turnovers. Micky Prozinski added three goals of his own, while Sam Siegel finished with two goals, two assists and one caused turnover.
Colby Blondin, meanwhile, scored the lone Thomas goal of the contest to go along with four groundballs, whereas Sheldon Jones and Greshom Renee contributed a combined five groundballs and nine caused turnovers.
Prozinksi helped Castleton jump out to a quick lead in the opening frame, as the freshman midfielder scored back-to-back goals in a span of 5:35 to help the squad grab a six-goal advantage. The Spartans continued to pressure the offensive zone in the second period and scored four times in that frame to head into the break with a 10-0 lead.
After Davidson opened the third period with his first goal of the game, Thomas got on the scoreboard when Blondin netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season. However, Castleton finished out the frame with six goals before tacking on two more in the final 12:38 of play to capture a 19-1 victory.
Peter Latulippe played a solid game in the cage with eight saves and an 88.9 save percentage to record his first win of the season. Liam Salus and Connor Lamberton, meanwhile, combined to produce 24 saves in the losing effort.
The Spartans are back in action next week when they hit the road for a conference contest against the Lyndon St. Hornets on Wednesday before facing the Norwich Cadets the following day.
