CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton (2-4-1) encountered a tough Thomas squad (4-2-1) in North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, playing to a 1-1 result after 110 minutes of game time. Spencer Dandurand was the lone goalscorer for the Spartans in the match.

The game was intense from the opening whistle with both teams battling to get on the board first. The Terriers had the first opportunities of the match, forcing Dan Palker into making a pair of saves in the thirteenth minute,

In the 37th minute, a defensive lapse led to an open net opportunity for Thomas when a Spartan defender tried to clear a cross, instead deflecting it on goal. Max Hansson looked to have an easy finish for the away side, but his header clipped off the post and out of play.

Thomas didn't waste any time to take the lead after the break, notching a goal just four minutes into the second half. Tre Ming and William Nilson connected to find a streaking London Steede-Jackson who lofted the ball over Palker to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

The Spartans nearly responded just minutes later when Dandurand's shot was cleared from the line. Thomas' keeper Winston Trott had the ball jarred loose in the box after colliding with a teammate, and Dandurand collected the ball, sending a shot on target. However, Duplissie headed the ball from the goal line to make the defensive save.

In the 62nd minute, it looked like the Spartans had equalized the match when Jake Tietgens cross was struck home by Owen Fellows, but the goal was disallowed as Tietgens let the ball go out of bounds on the baseline.

Just nine minutes later Castleton finally broke though when Dandurand grabbed his fifth goal of the season. Bryce Kaler played a through ball into the box that the senior gathered and curled a shot past the keeper to tie the game at 1-1.

The Terriers nearly grabbed the match winner with two minutes remaining in regulation as Duplissie fired a shot on goal, however, Palker made a fantastic diving effort to deny the goal and end regulation tied 1-1.

In the first overtime, the Terriers continued to pressure the Castleton defense, and in the 91st minute they had a chance to grab the victory. Kyle Fletcher delivered a cross in the box that found an open Nilson. Nilson volleyed a rocket towards goal that flew just wide of the net.

The Spartans ended the game on the counter attack, taking three shots with one save in the final 14 seconds. Dameon Young stole the ball near Thomas' goal and produced a shot that was blocked. Alex McCormick recovered the ball, putting a shot on target that the Terriers' keeper, Winston Trott, knocked away.

Palker made nine saves and moved to 2-4-1 with the 1-1 draw. Trott recorded three stops is now 4-1-1 in net.

The Spartans return to the pitch on Sunday when they host the University of Maine at Farmington at Spartan Stadium for a conference battle beginning at noon.
