Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Owen Fellows' ninth minute goal propelled the Spartans to an important 1-0 victory at Maine Maritime in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action today.
Castleton improves to 8-8-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference, moving into fifth place in the NAC standings just one game behind New England College for the second position. With the loss, Maine Maritime drops to 7-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play.
It took just nine minutes for the Spartans to grab their lead when Fellows put a shot past Mariners keeper Marshall Spear and into the back of the net to record his fifth goal of the season, giving Castleton the 1-0 advantage.
Maine Maritime's attack continually pressured the Spartans defense following the early goal, producing 22 total shots with seven on target, but failed to capitalize on any scoring opportunities.
Overall, Castleton was outshot by 12 and took two less corners than the Mariners. However, keeper Amir Pasic proved to be the difference maker as he produced seven saves to tally his third win and second shutout in his fourth start as a Spartan. For the Maine Maritime, Spear took the loss after making two saves in 90 minutes of action.
Castleton finishes its regular season tomorrow when it battles Husson at 2:30 pm in conference action.
