Castleton, Vt. - The top-seeded Spartans lived up to their title as regular season champs, dominating the play and taking down Lyndon St. 5-0 in the North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal round on Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

Nate Koenemann made three saves in his seventh shutout of the season and eight different Spartans registered points in the victory. Spencer Dandurand finished with a goal and an assist to lead the home team.

On the Spartans first shot on goal, the squad cashed in to earn a 1-0 advantage. Bryce Kaler played a lofted ball over the top of the Hornets' back line where Spencer Dandurand ran it down on the left flank, beating a Lyndon defender. Dandurand struck the ball off the hands of charging goalkeeper and into the net.

Just five minutes later, Castleton struck again. Dandurand played a long ball through the air to the far post. Owen Fellows made a run from the midfield to connect with the ball in the air, sending a header goalward, into the side netting. The 12th minute strike made the score 2-0 early in the contest.

The Spartans added to their tally in the 21st minute with a goal from Dameon Young. The midfielder made a run down the middle and was hit in stride with a pass from P.J. Phillips out of the back. Young corralled the pass and slid it past Marks to put Castleton up 3-0.

In the second half, Castleton continued with the offensive pressure, pummeling Jason Marks with several shots in the period. It was not until the 74th minute that the Spartans were able to pile onto the lead. John Kendall intercepted a pass at midfield and beat the Lyndon defenders in a 50-yard sprint to goal, and then slotted the ball into the bottom corner to put Castleton ahead 4-0.

In the final minutes, Gabe Bicker added his first career goal off a Jake Tietgens assist to extend the Spartan lead to 5-0.

Lyndon ends their season with a 1-15-1 overall record, while Castleton improves to 13-3-2 on the season. The top-seeded Spartans advance to the semifinal round where they will host the winner of Thomas and Husson on Wednesday evening at Spartan Stadium.
