Box Score Poultney, Vt. – Castleton State College got a two-goal performance from Bryce Kaler (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) in a 2-0 shutout of Green Mountain College on Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer action.
With only 47 seconds having elapsed in the game, Kaler found himself in a fortunate position in front of the Eagles' net to pound home a ball that had deflected off a head by a GMC defender from a Castleton corner kick.
Kaler once again found himself in the right place at the right time for his second goal. The forward tapped the ball into a wide open net after an attempted through ball was errantly defended, throwing Eagles' keeper Nate Kishbaugh (Niskayuna, N.Y.) off balance and unable to make a play on the ball.
With the two goals today, Kaler has now scored a team-leading nine goals over the course of seven games. In each of those games, the forward has netted at least one goal.
Castleton (8-2-0 overall, 2-1-0 NAC) continued to pressure the Eagles, but several goal line saves by Kishbaugh and the team's defenders prevented further damage, producing the final score.
Castleton outshot Green Mountain (2-6-0 overall, 1-2-0 NAC) by a 25-5 margin and scored a definitive edge in corner kicks, taking nine to just one for the Eagles.
Nate Koenemann earned his second consecutive shutout for Castleton, his fourth of the year, by making five saves. Kishbaugh made nine saves and took the loss.
Green Mountain will return to action against Sat., Oct. 6 hosting NAC opponent Thomas College. The Spartans will host Middlebury in a non-conference tilt on October 3rd at 7 p.m.
