Castleton cruises to 22-4 win in NAC East Opener

WATERVILLE, Maine – Amanda Flodstrom (Stratham, N.H.) scored five goals and dished out five assists as Castleton State College cruised to a 22-4 win over Thomas in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division women's lacrosse action Friday afternoon.

The Spartans scored early and often en route to a 14-2 halftime lead and improved to 3-5, 1-0. Thomas evens its overall mark at 3-3, while falling to 0-1 in conference play.

Mariah Lesure (Vernon, Vt.) followed with three goals while Jessica Taplin (Barre, Vt.), Taryn Smith (Southbury, Conn.), Cori Healy (Jefferson Township, N.J.), Sarah Clark (Guilford, Vt.), Madison DaCosta (New Bedford, Mass.) and Kate Auer (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) each registered a pair.

The Terriers cut the Spartan lead to 6-2 after a Jillian Lambert at the 14:17 mark, but Castleton ended the half on an 8-0 run to put the game away. Flodstrom had a hand in half the output, scoring once and assisting on three others.

Freshman goalie Kelsey McDonald (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) made five saves to earn her first win, while senior Angelica Mazzola (Harborfields, N.Y.) controlled the possession game with a game-high nine ground balls and eight draw controls.

Teshia Cates stopped nine shots in the loss and Jennifer Day led the Terriers with a pair of goals.

Castleton will take on University of Maine at Farmington tomorrow at 3 pm.
