Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Spartans couldn't get their offense going in the first half as they were held to one goal, before ultimately dropping a 17-10 contest to Hartwick at Wright Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Zach Davidson (South Burlington, Vt.) had a team-high five points with two goals and three assists in the loss. Castleton falls to 1-5 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 4-3 overall with the victory.
The Spartans trailed 4-0 in the first period before Davidson put the visitors on the board at the 1:57 mark off a pass from Jake Krantz (Franklin Lakes N.J.). Hartwick added two more goals before the end of the period and then scored all eight goals of the second period to take a commanding 14-1 halftime lead.
Cam Ormiston (Wakefield, R.I.) ended the Castleton scoring drought with 8:32 left in the third quarter to make it a 16-2 contest. The goal jumpstarted a 6-0 run by the Spartans over the next quarter. They closed the gap to 16-7 on a goal by Colin Murray (Oshawa, Ont.) with five minutes remaining in the game.
Castleton finished with the contest's last three goals for the 17-10 margin.
Eric Horsfield (Tolland, Conn.) got the start in net, but only lasted 30 minutes before being pulled for junior Tom Manley (Londonderry, N.H.). Horsfield made nine saves on 25 shots while Manley stopped nine of the 12 shots he faced.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they face off against Norwich under the lights at 7 p.m.
