Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton played even with Middlebury through the first 78 plus minutes, but a few unfortunate bounces proved to be the difference, sending the Spartans to a 3-0 defeat.

Castleton's best chance of the first half came when Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) beat his defender by the near corner of the 18 and crossed a ball to the middle of six for Spencer Dandurand (Colchester, Vt.). The ball grazed his head before skidding out of bounds. The Spartans and Panthers played to a 0-0 tie in the first half.

Just three minutes into the second half. Koenemann made a great charge on a 2-on-1 break, sacrificing his body to cut off a potential goal.

Freshmen Danny Favreau (Arlington, Vt.) gave the Spartans' their cleanest shot of the evening, ripping a kick from just inside the near corner of the 18. It redirected off a defender, but Zach Abdu-Glass (Lexington, Mass.) was still able to get in front of it for the save.

Middlebury finally got on the board in the 79th minute on an own goal. The ball was bouncing around in the box before it went off a defender and bounced back over Koenemann's head into the net.

The Panthers made it 2-0 in the 86th minute as the ball deflected out to Peisch at the near corner of the 18 and he took one dribble before blasting it past Koenemann.

With just 39 seconds remaining, Middlebury pushed its lead to 3-0. A attempted shot from outside the 18 hit the cross bar and came out to Ben Tabah (New Canaan, Conn.) who ripped the ball into the back of the net.

The Spartans fall to 8-3 on the year, and return to action Sat., Oct. 6 against NAC conference foe Me.-Farmington.
