Box Score Bangor, Maine - In a rematch of last year's NAC Soccer Championship, Castleton fell to Husson 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
The Spartans had scoring chances early in the game. In the 23rd minute, Castleton freshman Danny Favreau (Arlington, VT) shook off all the defenders he encountered and set up a one on one play. Husson goalkeeper Brian Potter (Waterville, Maine) came out of the box and kicked the ball out from under Favreau breaking up a potentially dangerous scoring opportunity for the Spartans.
Husson opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when the Eagles' James Crockford (Watford, England) found sophomore Phil Frost (Bangor, ME) on a free kick. Frost headed the ball into the goal putting the Eagles up 1-0. The Eagles added to their tally two minutes later when Frost headed in another goal, this time off a flip throw from Andrew Austin (Ellsworth, Maine), making it 2-0.
Castleton refused to quit, and countered with a goal of their own in the 37th minute. Freshman forward Blake Hart placed the ball past Potter to pull the Spartans back within one, entering halftime.
In the 59th minute, the Eagles added to their lead when Jacob Erskine (Sidney, Maine) slipped the ball past goalkeeper Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) to make the score 3-1. The Eagles struck again late in the tilt when Patrick Van Dessel (Dover, N.H.) finished a rebound off of a great Koenemann save, increasing their lead to 4-1.
The Spartans fall to 9-5 (3-3) with the loss, but look to rebound tomorrow when they take on host Maine Maritime at 2 pm in Castine, Maine.
