LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Spartans gave up an early goal but got the final three on Saturday to clinch a 3-1 victory over Lyndon at Lyndon Athletic Field in front of a homecoming crowd.

The game started off rough for Castleton as the Hornets' Patrice Lumumba (Burlington, Vt./Democratic Republic of The Congo) got past the defense and fired a shot home just 7:44 into the contest. The goal jump-started the visitors as they controlled play for the rest of the half and tied the game up on an own goal five minutes later.

The second half was all Spartans as they fired 16 shots to Lyndon's one and took the lead at the 58:00 mark on a goal by freshman Dameon Young (Fairfax, Vt.) off a pass from Spencer Dandurand (Colchester, Vt.). The score remained 2-1 until the 85th minute, when first-year Vincent Addonisio (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) put home his first career goal from just inside the 18.

Sophomore Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) made two saves in net for his third victory of the season while Lyndon's Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) kept it close for the host squad with an impressive 14 saves.

With the victory Castleton improves to 3-2-1 and a perfect 1-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Hornets fall to 0-1 in NAC play and 3-4 overall. The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when they travel to take on Plymouth St.
