Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton men's soccer team won its third straight game on Saturday, shutting out Green Mountain 3-0 on a cold and rainy day at Spartan Stadium.
The host squad had goals from three different players as they outshot the Eagles by a 28-9 margin on the afternoon and controlled play for much of the contest. Sophomore Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) was solid in net once again, posting his second shutout in three games while making five saves.
The Spartans got on the board in the 23rd minute when junior Zac Conlogue scored right in front off the net off a pass from freshman Dameon Young (Fairfax, Vt.), after Young's shot attempt was stopped by keeper Nate Kishbaugh (Niskayuna, N.Y.).
Castleton upped its lead to 2-0 at the 42:08 mark, courtesy of some pinpoint passing. Sophomore John Kendall (Springfield, Vt.) got the ball near midfield and hit Trevor Kotrady (No. Clarendon, Vt.) making a run down the right sideline. Kotrady received the ball and headed a through ball past the defense to a streaking Spencer Dandurand (Colchester, Vt.) who beat the charging keeper with a short to the lower right side of the net.
The Eagles kept Castleton at bay for much of the second half, however, the Spartans finally broke though in the 81st minute. Nick Hallet (Windsor Locks, Conn.) dribbled the ball to the corner of the 18 and lofted a pass to the middle of the six for Kotrady, who received the ball in the air and one-timed it past Kishbaugh. For the senior it was his fourth straight game with a goal and his eighth of the season.
Kishbaugh finished with five saves between the pipes as Green Mountain falls to 1-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. Castleton improves to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the NAC.
The win extended the Spartans' regular-season conference unbeaten streak to 14 contests, dating back to the 2009 season. Castleton returns to the pitch on Tuesday as the team faces off with Middlebury.
