Castleton downs Thomas, 17-3

Castleton, VT – The Castleton State College women's lacrosse team used 11 different goal scorers to cruise past Thomas in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium, 17-3.

The Spartans grab their first win of the season improving to 1-1. The Terriers fall to 0-1.

Marie VanDerKar (Manchester, VT) and Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, NY) led Castleton offensively scoring three goals a piece. Jennifer Macari (Central Islip, NY) and Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, CT) added two goals each while teammates Elizabeth Haggerty (Centerport, NY), Corinne Healy (Jefferson Township, NJ), Jessica Taplin (Barre, VT), Beth Sturgis (Middlesex, VT), Aimee Goulette (Baldwinsville, NY), Katelyn Nardini (Scotia-Glenville, NY) and Nicole Adams (Rutland, VT) all chipped in with one goal a piece.

Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, NY) led the Spartans in the assist column with three.

For Thomas, Kiley Jolicoeur (Oakland, ME) netted all three goals for the Terriers.

Castleton jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage as VanDerKar opened up the scoring at 29:37. Pearce found the back of the net twice over the next four minutes and Nardini tallied her second goal of the season at 24:23.

Jolicoeur made it 4-1 at 23:41 weaving through the Castleton defense for her first of the season.

The Spartans netted the next four goals for an 8-1 advantage. VanDerKar tallied two goals during the span giving her eight on the season.

After Jolicoeur's second goal of the season at 15:22 of the first, Castleton scored eight unanswered goals to put the game away.

The Spartans return to action on March 17 as they host Colby-Sawyer with first draw scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Thomas will host St. Joseph's (Me.) on March 18 at 3:30 p.m.
