CASTLETON, Vt. – Sophomore forward Trevor Kotrady (No. Clarendon, Vt.) scored one goal and assisted on another as the Castleton State College men's soccer team defeated Lyndon State, 3-0, at Spartan Stadium in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 7-4 overall, remain perfect in NAC play at 3-0 and push their winning streak against the Hornets to eight-straight games dating back to 2001. Lyndon State falls to 7-2-1 and 2-1 in the NAC.

Near the 28th minute, Kotrady struck a shot that knuckled towards the far post but Hornet goaltender Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) made a beautiful leaping save to keep the score knotted at zero. On the ensuing corner kick, Josh Costa (Sutton, Mass.) crossed the ball to the far post and Nick Johnas (Niskayuna, N.Y.) finished with a header by Gray for a 1-0 advantage.

Kotrady picked up his fifth assist of the season at 32:42 of the first half lofting a cross from the left flank to Anthony Buehler (Castleton, Vt.) who headed the ball into the top left corner for a 2-0 lead.

Just two minutes and five seconds later, Kotrady tallied his fourth marker of the season finding a loose ball just eight yards out from the goal and blasted it home for a commanding 3-0 gap.

Five minutes into the second half, Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) robbed Kyle Mecham (Wilbraham, Mass.) on a direct kick from 30 yards out diving towards the far post to keep Castleton ahead 3-0.

Gray finished the afternoon with 14 saves in net as the Spartans outshot Lyndon St. 35-9. Castleton won the corners match-up 10-2.

The Spartans travel to Green Mountain in conference action on Wednesday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m. Lyndon State returns to action on Wednesday when the Hornets play host to Norwich at 3:30.
